CHEROKEE MOUNTAIN SETTING OF THE SUN AND RISING OF THE FULL MOON HIKE July 10, August 9 and September 7, 2025
Envision the sun descending behind the mountains, the heavens ablaze with golds and oranges, gradually transitioning to pinks and purples as dusk arrives at Cherokee Mountain. Soon after, the full moon ascends over Raccoon Knob. Listen to stories of yore and the sounds of wildlife at dusk, as tranquility and splendor surround you. Come along for a trek up Cherokee Mountain to witness the sunset and the moonrise in their full glory.
This is considered a moderate hike—participants should be physically fit and over 10 years in age. We will begin in the upper parking lot and the hike will last about 45 minutes each way. We will arrive atop Cherokee Mountain a bit before sunset and return after dark. Long pants and good hiking shoes, liter bottle of water are recommended, as well as a walking stick and a headlamp for night hiking.
Please be aware that flipflops and sandals are not allowed.
